Unique Family Activity in St. Louis

The National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis won’t be found anywhere else! This is a one of a kind museum with precious artifacts dating back hundreds of years. The Transportation Museum has both indoor and outdoor exhibits that are fun for the whole family.

Outdoor Kids Activities

There are several outdoor activities for kids at the Transportation Museum including this hand-powered train track. My boys had a great time driving around on these. They also have little toy cars for toddlers and a beautiful butterfly garden to explore.

National Museum of Transportation Car Collection

The Transportation Museum in St. Louis has an impressive collection of vintage cars and other vehicles. There are horse drawn carriages, bicycles, and motorcycles too! They cover all kinds of transportation methods here and its definitely cool to see.

Vintage Trains

Some of the artifacts at the Museum of Transportation were outdoors, like these vintage trains. It was neat to see all the different styles of trains over the years and read what they were used for. I liked that you can go at your own pace during the self-guided tour of the museum and read the info at each artifact.

Vintage Carriage

They had a great history on the development of automobiles and carriages in the museum. I loved all the vintage photographs everywhere too.

How long does it take to go through the St Louis Transportation Museum?

We spent about 2 hours walking through the exhibits and having a snack at the visitors center. We didn’t do the mini train ride or make it to the airplanes so I think you could easily spend 3-4 hours here if you looked at everything and rode the train.

Everything at the Transportation Museum is related to transport so there are airplanes, buses, cars, motorcycles, trains, and more! Anything that can get you from one place to another.

When did the Museum of Transportation open?

The National Museum of Transportation opened in 1944 by a group of citizens who acquired a few historical artifacts and decided to grow their collection.

What is the best time to visit Transport Museum?

The best time to visit the Transport Museum is during the warmer months because much of the museum is outdoors. The day we went was a little hot but the indoor exhibits offer an air conditioned break to your trek through the museum.
